LOS ANGELES AIRPORT POLICE GIVE POLICE STATION TOUR TO WESTCHESTER BOY SCOUT TROOP 748

(Los Angeles, California – November 18, 2011)  Los Angeles Airport Police gave the Westchester Boy Scout Troop 748 a tour of the Airport Police Station in honor of Law Enforcement month.  The group of fifteen children, ranging in age from 7 to 10 years old, arrived at the station with their parents.

The tour of the station was led by Lieutenant Michael Edwards, the second shift Watch Commander.  As part of the tour, the scouts were engaged in a discussion about; why the police are your friends, what is an emergency and when do you call 911.  They had a question and answer session, and afterwards Canine Officer Hans Bergmann demonstrated how police dogs are trained. 
At the end of the tour, the children were able to look at and sit on Motor Officer Eduardo Angel’s police motorcycle, and look at police vehicles with lights and siren’s displayed.  Ms. Leslie Rigney, the Boy Scout Troop leader, said, “they appreciate what the Airport Police do to keep the airport and surrounding community safe.”  Chief George Centeno said, “We embrace the chance to provide community outreach opportunities when possible and we welcome inviting the community into our Airport Police family environment.”

The Los Angeles Airport Police Division is the fourth largest law enforcement agency in Los Angeles County, with more than 1,200 law enforcement, security and staff personnel.  The Airport Police is a division of Los Angeles World Airports, the City department that owns and operates four airports in Southern California:  Los Angeles International, LA/Ontario International and Van Nuys (general aviation).
